Hi! I'm Celia Bailey, and this is my Girl Scout Gold Award Project focusing on kindness and inclusion at Discovery Elementary School.
About Me!
I began my Girl Scout journey in kindergarten as a Daisy at Jamestown Elementary in Arlington, VA.
Now I am a Girl Scout Ambassador and a member of the Class of 2027 at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, MD. In addition to Girl Scouts, I am a swimmer, tap dancer, and soccer player.
Why this project is important to me!
In elementary school, I was shy, and I would have appreciated a designated spot to reach out and connect with others.
The Buddy Bench encourages children to notice classmates who may be looking for a friend while providing a safe, welcoming space for shy kids (like me!) to reach out and ask for support. By fostering kindness and inclusion from a young age, we can help children build habits that will stay with them as life becomes more complicated and it becomes easier to focus on themselves. I hope they will remember not only how kindness made others feel, but also how good it felt to make someone else feel seen, welcomed, and included and to help create a friendlier world.
